Reasons Not to Buy a Bosch Washer

While many different models are available with a variety of machines to fit any budget, Bosch washing machines are generally still more expensive than some other brands.

Some Bosch washing machines are compact, making them smaller than standard 27 inches units, so if you want a matching replacement or the same size as your dryer, be sure to check the external measurements.

There’s also a cost vs. reward element to consider with what may be unnecessary bells and whistles. Bosch washing machines have lots of different settings, but depending on your household, some of their features may not be practical or necessary for everyone.

Varieties of Bosch Washing Machines

Bosch washing machines come in a variety of types, models, and series. Some of the most common unit styles are:

Smart Washing Machines

The Bosch Smart range washing machines can connect to your WiFi, so you can control and optimize them using an app on your phone.

The Bosch 300 & 800 series both feature the Home-Connect functionality, but it’s likely to be available on most newer models too.

Front Loading Washing Machines

Front loading is the most popular style of washing machine on the market. They can handle large loads and use less water and electricity than top-load machines, so they can help you stay on budget too.

Top-Loading Washing Machine

Top-load washing machines are usually more accessible and easier to use, particularly if you struggle with mobility. They’re also likely to have a quicker wash time than front-load machines.

Bosch offers several options for top-load washing machines, including their 24-inch compact machines. Just be sure to measure up your available space and check the size of the machine before purchasing.

Washer-Dryers

Bosch makes some of the best two-in-one units in the market with their bestselling washer-dryer models. These machines have dual functionality and can both wash and dry your clothes.

This is a convenient choice for people who live in apartments or older homes that haven’t been designed with space for multiple appliances.

If considering a washer-dryer, double-check the load capacities as they often have a higher capacity for washing than drying.

They can also be more problematic due to the dual functionality, so check reviews for the specific model you’re considering.

Features Offered in Bosch Washing Machines

Modern Bosch washers are often equipped with state-of-the-art features such as anti-vibration technology and smart connectivity.

Here are what features you can expect to see in a Bosch washing machine:

4D Wash System

The innovative 4D wash system helps to ensure a thorough clean and spotless results, even at low temperatures and with a full machine.

ActiveWater

Bosch washing machines with ActiveWater have sensors that detect the load of laundry and calculate the exact amount of water that will be needed.

This can save so much in water costs per year when compared to washer models that just have a pre-set load size.

AllergyPlus

Particles, dirt, detergent residue, pet dander, and pollen in our clothing can cause major irritation in the form of allergies. Bosch machines with the AllergyPlus feature wash clothes at higher temperatures with more intensive cycles to remove all the potential allergens from your clothing.

AntiStain

Some Bosch machines come with AntiStain technology, an integrated feature designed to remove 16 of the most common stains, including grease, blood, grass, and red wine.

AntiVibration

New Bosch washing machines are designed in a way that improves stability and reduces vibration, with the addition of specialist sidewalls, sound insulation, and shock absorbers that keep the machine incredibly stable.

This feature is a game-changer if you live in an apartment or prefer to run your machine overnight.

AquaStop

Washing machines with AquaStop come with a specialist double-walled feed hose, safety valve, and float tank, which help to prevent any possible leaks from either the machine or the supply.

EcoSilence Drive

Working alongside the AntiVibration technology, the EcoSilence feature allows the machine to run at an ultra-quiet 47 decibels: at 8 decibels quieter than the sea, you won’t even notice you turned the machine on.

Instead of brushes to run the motor, there are magnets to keep the machine motor spinning, improving efficiency and durability. Bosch is so confident in this feature that the machines typically come with a 10-year guarantee.

Home Connect

The Bosch’ Home Connect’ function is the brand’s name for inbuilt Smart technology. When connected, the app will help you select the best program for your load, saving on both water and electricity costs.

Reload

If you’re prone to finding a rogue sock minutes after turning the machine on, this feature is for you! With Bosch Reload, you can pause the machine to open the door and add or remove items as needed.

SpeedPerfect

Reducing wash times by up to 65%, the SpeedPerfect feature works alongside most standard programs on your machine to reduce energy consumption and get the same results in less time.

SuperQuick15

For quick emergency laundry needs, the quick wash will wash, rinse and spin dry a small load of laundry. This is the fastest cycle possible and will get your clothes to you in a hurry.

VarioDrum

The Bosch VarioDrum feature alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise movements to thoroughly clean your clothes in a gentle way that does not damage the fabrics.

This is particularly useful if you have a wardrobe full of delicate clothes and fine fabrics.

How Do Bosch Washing Machines Compare to Other Brands?

With its well-established reputation in the appliance industry, Bosch washing machines are highly rated by customers and industry experts. They perform consistently well on quality tests and product reports, as well as receiving glowing ratings and reviews online.

While there are many great brands in the appliance market, such as Kenmore and Samsung, it often comes down to personal preference when choosing your next washing machine.

While Bosch has many great features in their washing machine, it’s important to note that many other brands have comparable features, albeit branded under different names.

How Long Will a Bosch Washing Machine Last?

Most washing machines on the market have a life span of 10 – 12 years – this includes Bosch, Samsung, Kenmore, and Miele.

However, with proper maintenance and cleaning, you can increase this significantly.

Who Makes Bosch Washing Machines?

The German engineering organization known as Robert Bosch GmbH makes Bosch washing machines.

Known as Bosch for short, the company was founded by Robert Bosch in 1886 and has grown into a huge manufacturing operation worldwide.

The branch that manufactures the Bosch washing machines is called BSH Hausgerate; they manufacture Siemens and Neff appliances too, and are ranked number 1 in Europe with 39 factories worldwide.

Where are Bosch Washing Machines Made?

Bosch has a presence in more than 60 countries and has manufacturing plants all around the world. Different washing machine models are manufactured in different countries.

Bosch Serie 6 – Best Mid Range

I have an older Bosch Serie 6 washer model, and I never had any issues with it. And if I remember correctly, it’s 4 years since I brought it, and I’ve been very happy with the washer.

The latest model in the Bosch Serie 6 WGG24409GB line is a good mid-range option that doesn’t break the bank. It’s incredibly energy efficient and equipped with a drum clean reminder program that reminds you of recommended drum maintenance every 20 washes.

  • Features: Reload, AntiStain, EcoSilence Drive, SpeedPerfect, VarioDrum, Active Water Plus Technology, DrumClean Reminder & Time Delay

The front-loading full-size Bosch Serie 8 WAV28MH4GB washing machine is a great choice for families who constantly have laundry on the go. Common Bosch Washing Machine Problems

Here are some common problems you can expect with a Bosch washing machine.

Door Lock Issues

The most common reason for this is that the water hasn’t drained out of the machine, causing the door to remain locked to prevent a flood. Running a quick spin/drain cycle can help to fix this.

Excessive Noise & Shaking

An unbalanced load, especially in a top-load machine, can cause the machine to vibrate into cabinets and walls, in some instances shaking the whole house.

If you have a top-load machine, just open the lid and rearrange the clothes: for a front-load, you may be able to pause the cycle.

Otherwise, just wait until the cycle is complete, then unscrew the balancing feet with a spirit level to ensure the machine is level and evenly balanced.

Leaking Water

Many of the newer Bosch models are equipped with water leak sensors, and they will shut off immediately if a leak is detected and show an error code.

If you notice a leak, it may be an issue with a damaged hose, a loose connection, or the water pump, but always make sure this is fixed before running the machine again.

Not Filling Up With Water

This usually means there is a blockage somewhere – it could be a clogged hose, filter, valve, or air blocking the water access.

FAQs

What is the difference between Bosch Series 2, 4, 6, and 8 washing machines?

The main difference is the lower the number, the more basic the model. This means the Bosch series 2 and 4 machines have the least extra features and generally only offer the basic functions that you need in a washing machine.

The higher the Series number, the more bells and whistles are added, such as the 4D Wash System, AllergyPlus, and WiFi connectivity.

The Series 8 can come with very high-end features for a model that will feel quite luxurious in your home.

How many Bosch washing machines are there?

While some of the models and series are being discontinued, it depends on what region of the world you’re in. Bosch currently markets four series of washing machines – the Series 2, 4, 6, and 8.

However, some parts of the world have a Series 5 series being sold, while others do not carry the 2 anymore.

Are Bosch washing machines energy efficient?

Yes, many of the washing machines that Bosch makes are high-efficiency and use less water and energy than other models. The rating system that Bosch uses for their efficiency rating is A+++ or A++, so be sure to look for either of those symbols when you are shopping.

Generally speaking, the higher Series numbers (6 and 8) are more energy efficient than the Series 2 and 4. It’s worth considering whether you can increase your budget to make savings against the running costs in the long run.

Does a Bosch front loader last longer than a top loader?

A top-load washing machine (Bosch or any other comparable brand) will generally last longer than a front-load washer.

However, the front load will require fewer repairs, which can become costly, especially as the machine gets older and the parts are harder to come by.

Final Thoughts on Bosch Washing Machines

Bosch washing machines are great products made by a reputable brand. They offer a variety of smart and innovative features comparable with any other high-end brand and have stellar customer and expert reviews. Paired with the generous warranty periods, you really can’t go wrong.

Whichever model you go with, you can put your trust in the brand that has been around for over 100 years and has an annual turnover figure in the billions. Manufacturing isn’t outsourced like some other brands, and their after-sales customer care program is one of the best in the market.

In terms of choice, if you want a budget-friendly model, then go for the Series 2 or 4, but if you have a busy household and can afford the Series 6 or 8, it may pay for itself over the years in energy efficiencies alone.
